THE EXHIBITING CONCEPT - NATURA ET CULTURA
The exhibiting concept called NATURA ET CULTURA uses the optics of the recent anthropological approaches to nature (R. F. Ellen and K. Fukui)* considering the confrontation of nature and the culture, which the structuralism and the anthropologists and the scientists started reviewing during the sixties (20th ct.). According to this anthropological approach culture uses nature, it assimilates nature and, in conclusion - nature is a scientific device and the ideological construct. As this exhibition gathers artists, enthusiasts, and at the same time, the representatives of the organizations for nature protection through Powerweb - Art, Science and Education Platform, the final product of such premeditation would be - finding the meander of nature and culture. In his work The Simulacra and Simulation**, Baudrillard wrote that the logical evolution of science is to distance itself increasingly from its object until it dispenses with it entirely: its autonomy is only rendered even more fantastic - it attains its pure form. We dare to play out this syntagm where we distance the artwork from its object until we liberate it from the limits of its own optics and its meaning. With this presentation, our exhibition - previously exhibited In sequences on the ecologically important site - the Neretva Delta and afterward in Prapratno at Peljesac - gains an important artistic connection to other exhibiting places of our artistic exposition, such as Natural History Museum Metkovic, Izidor Krsnjavi Gallery in Zagreb and other cooperating museums and galleries. Such artwork enforces personal understanding about the values of pristine nature and its albeit, limited regeneration and of course, it makes us aware of the importance of lifelong learning and personal engagement in our home – planet Earth.
